Electric cars are becoming more popular in the UK as fuel costs rise. Electricity is now a cheaper and far more environmentally friendly alternative for road users. We read an interesting article recently that gave some good reasons for choosing to opt for an electric car, these included the fact that electric cars are being designed for the mainstream market, the infrastructure to support them is well developed and the new cars are now designed to go much further after each charge. In addition as we all know they are very energy efficient and are environmentally friendly. We did a bit of research and found these three electric cars are now on the market and proving to be quite popular. Would you buy one of these?
1.BMW i3 Hatchback
When designing this car, the company took a very alternative approach, as they didn’t want it to look like a traditional fuel powered car. Its striking futuristic appearance certainly looks different. Its small build makes it perfect for city dwellers that need to nip in and out of traffic as well as squeezing into those tight parking spaces. BMW also claim that after each charge the range can reach up to 125 miles. Its performance is also tested as high, with it being able to reach 0-62mph in just 7.2 seconds.
2.Tesla Model S Saloon
Unlike the i3, this car aims to blend in seamlessly with the crowd; the company have given it a classic business like appearance. It was built originally to compete with undeniably good-looking executive cars such as the Mercedes E-class and the BMW 5 Series. The performance is also at the top of its range, depending on which model you choose - the Model S has a range of up to 312 miles, and can get from 0-62mph in a phenomenal 3.1 seconds.
3.Volkswagen e-up! Hatchback
This car is designed to be exactly the same as its petrol-based counter part, with the designers simply replacing the engine with an electrical one. The e-up’s petit size makes it perfect for whizzing around the city, while the electric motor means that it is exempt from road tax and the London Congestion Charge. The 90mile range attached to this car is more than enough for city dwellers.
We hope that you found our top selections interesting, we certainly hope to get the opportunity to test-drive some of these cars in the near future.
The no-claims discount (NCD) has been a feature of car insurance for a long time, encouraging people to drive safely by rewarding them with lower premiums on renewal. But the benefits of hanging on to this feature of your policy may not be as worthwhile as you think.

Car insurance premiums could be just a fraction of current levels in five years’ time as driverless vehicles are expected to “eliminate bad driving” by 2020. Deaths and injuries caused by accidents are expected to virtually disappear and whiplash claims and car park disputes, which together account for 94pc of all insurance claims and cost insurers almost £3bn a year, could become a thing of the past as driverless technology will park our cars, brake automatically and swerve to avoid pedestrians and cyclists.
